Poem of separation
Sherri Mills’ video brings us a visual poem of separation through the eyes of children facing their parents’ divorce.
The song is Christina Perri’s: “Human” – with the full lyrics in the comments there. The powerful chorus is an emotional plea for the children:
“I’m only human and I bleed when I fall down and I crash and I break down, your words in my head, knife’s in my heart, you build me up and then I fall apart – cause I’m only human”
The children’s moving plea is backed up by scientific evidence. Since this video, Sherri Mills has written about how couples can work together for their children’s sake. So that there’s no need for a sad poem of separation.
To separate well, parents may need more help than they do, with earlier better support systems. Then children tell us happier stories, not sad poems.
