The principles of effective policy for children
Foundations, the UK’s What Works Centre for Children and Families, has clear advice for how the new Labour Government achieves its mission to support families and their children. Dr Jo Casebourne’s blog sets out the four key principles for effective policy for children:
- A focus on prevention and early intervention
- Increasing access to support that works.
- Answering urgent questions about what works to tackle some of the biggest current problems.
- Continuation of evidence-based policy approaches.
We want to see evidence-based policymaking placed at the heart of this mission-driven government.
The evidence already shows that the first two principles – early accessible support – are the most important change for helping separating families.
